"During two timeless sets, this craftsmen's incredible square of the sound gave to us to share a universe governed by the laws of the sound poetry. Everything in precision, in silent listening, tablecloths stretch, the bow rubs the cymbal, the double bass skips, the piano resounds with laughter of its struck ropes and the song of the flute stops leading us towards a state of awakening such as the listener seems to make body with the breath of the music. Between meditation and vibration, this journey in two parts literally transported us in an imagination of brilliant one beauty. "

Rocket to the Sky (no) : Jenny Hval, singer / Havard Volden, guitare

Rockettothesky, AKA Jenny Hval, is a Norwegian one-woman band. With her background in writing and performance, Rockettothesky blends medieval and contemporary poetry with the mythology of pop and folk music, resulting in a deeply personal and highly eccentric project with a touch of gothic tales, and an awareness of sound textures reminiscent of free improvisation. In 2006, Rockettothesky released a successfull debut album: To Sing You Apple Trees . The album received rave reviews and became a surprise hit with its mix of pop, poetry and rampant sexuality. Rockettothesky was nominated for Best New Act at the Norwegian Grammys and played most of the big Norwegian festivals in 2007, as well as shows and small festivals in Scandinavia, France, the UK and Belgium.

CYmBows : Mathieu Calleja / Toma Gouband (cymbal - bow - bells made of clay)

For more than 10 years their paths have repeatedly crossed in mutual exchange of inspiration and light.
These two illuminated musicians mold melody, texture and every possible element into ressonance and play with the energies that surround them.
They generate an ample sound where each frequency finds it’s personal space for vibration and yet remains connected to other frequencies.
By means of the cymbows – cymbals stroked with a classical string bow – the musician forgets himself, stepping back in order to allow the music to sing, vibrate, breathe and unfold on it’s own. And when the balance is found and the frequencies interact, interfere and intertwine, the eye of the cymbow has opened, it’s nature flying on the gravel of time, in time, from this instant towards…. A shape, a sculpture of sound, slowly floating on, already gone!...

>> interview of Evan Parker

Evan Parker, sax
Toma Gouband, percussions

No one, however, would ever hear Evan Parker playing either tenor or soprano and mistake the player for John Coltrane. Or anyone else! Evan Parker is that rare bird of contemporary playing: a thoroughly individual voice. He has influenced a growing crowd of younger saxophonists, but his playing in indefatigably free settings has unfortunately limited his fame and influence. Parker is emphatically not an "entertainer," but a true artist who has developed an entirely new way to play the saxophone.

Parker has developed the possibilities of unpremeditated music more deeply than almost anyone, creating a personal vocabulary that is simultaneously instantly recognizable and adaptable to the most varied of situations. To the untrained ear his playing will take some getting used to. He adapts marvelously to the style of whomever he's playing with, but he makes no easy concessions to the expectations of a listener weaned on the likes of hard bop. On tenor he creates sharp melodic shards with an astonishing emotional range. On soprano he employs circular breathing to create literally breathtaking swirls of sound that recall the techniques of minimalism in their hypnotic, minute variations, while astonishing the listener with their technical facility.

The proposition of these two artists consists of an interlacing of two universes. One is acting on the physical material (manipulation of objects, video-projection, texts, presences...), the other on the sound (deformation of the sound space).

The question of their meeting, witch is to build, to destroy, to rebuild, or even to let in its state, is asked at every moment.
Two parallel ways witch can't work without the other, are complementary, mixed, or ignoring themselves.
Do we have to speak about link?

The audience is then involved in an intense commitment, made necessary by the wealth of elements proposed

Jean-Sebastien Mariage

"Beyond a few famous guitarists (amplified) in the history of jazz, the great development of sound qualities of the electric guitar was mainly initiated by rock guitarists, often through unconscious and unpremeditated experiences. But the possibilities that these musicians have proved are today consciously extended by many avant-garde guitarists who can not be assimilated to rock or jazz or electronic music, but are in the center of development and concerns of all these musical forms, with as an anchor point: improvisation. Jean-Marc Montera, Stephan Wittwer and now Jean-Sébastien Mariage are, among others, part of this family of musicians who perpetuate the clearing and in one way or another, using new technologies or new materials are developing the instrument, transcend it, open it to unexpected sound, to unsuspected music. From Hendrix to Bailey, the electric guitar has become an instrument able to call into question  preconceived notions about the real nature of music and sound and its true artistic and political functions. "

- Théo Jarrier

"An imposing sound, a biting distortion, shrill and massive attacks, living disruptions, almost tactile materials. Proof that there still appears to do with this string instrument. "

- Jérome Noetinger
